International school detail of Makuhari International School

In May 2006 an application was made to establish an International School in Makuhari with 'Special Zone' status. Special Zone status allows Makuhari International School to use its own unique curriculum. It also allows more ease for Japanese children to return to Japanese schools, as well as foreign children to move on to other International Schools. Part of the vision when planning the school was to improve the living environment for foreigners living in Chiba as well as establish a school for Japanese returnee children to attend.

In January 2008, this plan was given final approval and Makuhari International School Establishment Preparatory Foundation was established. Architects were carefully chosen and much effort put into plans for a new school that would be modern, forward looking, well resourced and indeed a model for other International Schools in Japan. Spacious land was provided in Makuhari New City.

At the same time a group of dedicated educators and professionals was assembled to lay the ground work and begin the huge challenge of beginning the process of establishing Makuhari International School.

A Head of School was appointed in March 2008 and began work in April 2008.

Construction of the school site will begin in June 2008 and formal Admissions will begin from October 2008.

As well as providing an excellent education for Japanese Returnee children and foreign and dual nationality children in Chiba, it is also the aim for Makuhari International School to be an important educational and community focal point within Makuhari and a point of reference for families within the area. We are keen to contribute to the community around us and will, in time, establish not only a Saturday School but Summer School as well, all within the school grounds. Both will be open for all children of relevant age and will use the excellent resources and facilities that Makuhari International School will have.
